1. Who We Are

TapeRiot (“we,” “us,” “our”) is a platform for underground artists, labels, and music fans. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use taperiot.net.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, handle, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store your actual password). You may optionally add a bio, location, avatar, banner image, genres, and links.

Content you create

Music you upload, broadcasts you post, messages you send, reviews you write, and any other content you create on the platform.

Usage data

We track play counts on tracks for analytics purposes. We do not track which specific users played which tracks — play counts are anonymous aggregate numbers. We also record listener (follow) relationships and engagement actions (likes, reposts, replies) which are tied to your account.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the platform
• To send transactional emails (verification, password reset)
• To deliver notifications you've opted into
• To show analytics to artists about their station's performance
• To display your public profile and content to other users
• To send email updates if you subscribe to an artist's mailing list

4. What We Don't Do

• We do not sell your data to third parties
• We do not run behavioral advertising or tracking pixels
• We do not use algorithmic profiling to manipulate your feed
• We do not share your email address with other users (unless you choose to make it public)
• We do not track your listening history or create taste profiles

5. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services for hosting, email delivery, file storage, and voice chat infrastructure. Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data required for each service to function.

6. Cookies & Sessions

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. This is a functional cookie required for authentication — we do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or advertising cookies.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is stored as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the account settings page. When you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed from our database, including your profile, broadcasts, messages, reviews, tracks, and listener relationships. This action is irreversible.

8. Email Communications

We send emails for: account verification, password resets, and (if you subscribe to an artist) new release notifications. Artist mailing lists use double opt-in — you must confirm your subscription via email. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. You can manage notification preferences from the notifications page.

9. Security

Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text. Sessions are cryptographically signed. All traffic is encrypted via HTTPS. File uploads use access-controlled storage. We regularly rotate credentials and follow security best practices.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data (visible on your profile and settings)
• Correct your personal data (via the Edit Station page)
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Unsubscribe from any email communications
• Manage which notifications you receive

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via the platform. Continued use of TapeRiot after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
